Nancy Viall Shoemaker

Barnstable Historian

Nancy Viall Shoemaker is a graphic designer, book publisher, and owner of West Barnstable Press. She taught Graphic Arts at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School for 12 years. At 36, she enlisted in US Coast Guard Reserves: eight years at a lifesaving station and nine years working on buoys & lighthouses. A Town Historical Commissioner, she enjoys exploring the always exciting history of Cape Cod. Nancy is the historian of the Barnstable and West Barnstable Historical Societies and is a board member of the Coast Guard Heritage Museum. She teaches the history of the Town of Barnstable for the Town’s Citizen’s Academy and has written a play about Mercy Otis Warren. She and Jim Gould co-authored the book Women of Barnstable available at our online shop and the Marstons Mills Public library.

The Marstons Mills Historical Society meets regularly the 2nd Tuesday of the month, September through June, @2:00 p.m. at the Marstons MIlls Public Library.
